Buying my second
I currently have the Drafter10L, and I love it. I use it for day hikes during the summer- and when I say hikes, I mean 5k-6k' of elevation gain, sometimes over 4 miles, sometimes over 15. It keeps all my essentials: water (bladder to the max recommended), knife, compass, flint and stricker, maps, garmin, keys, poncho, bivy, first aid for me and pup, headlamp, lots of snacks, food for dog, and a long sleeve or thin coat. I will say I'm good at packing, but this thing is wonderful. I've completed likely in the range of 200 miles with it. The fabric at the very base did wear out, but it still works fine. Zippers still in great condition. When I originally bought one, it was $45 at Sierra, but it's worth me buying a second at a much higher price.

awkward for anything other than MTB
The lumbar bladder is fine for lowering the center of gravity on trail but is a complete waste of space for any other purpose. It takes up the lower half of the bag and limits your ability to carry anything like a laptop or tablet in the bag for daily use. Also the bladder is not completely isolated from the upper storage so condensation will get your stuff wet. The metal frame makes it difficult to pack down for storage when traveling. If you are looking for a bag ONLY for mountain biking, its pretty solid. If you are planning on using it for any other purpose, get something else.
Rad bag
This bag has plenty of storage for the gravel rides I’m taking it on. It’s held up well in the rain!
ideal backpack for a day’s ride
at 14l, this backpack fits right into that ideal size realm where you can carry stuff for a day’s ride and still it ain’t that heavy. hydration pack adds to it’s favor.
Drafter review
Great pack! Very satisfied so far after several uses. Replacing an osprey raptor 14 that was worn out. This pack is laid out much better. Much more airflow on the back.
Drafter Hydration
Used several times and exactly what I wanted!
Probably saved my life!!
I had my mind made up on a fanny pack hydration bag and a friend at Bear Mountain in Waco Texas talked me into MOUNTAIN BIKE BACKPACK - 10003402 DRAFTER 14L BIKE HYDRATION BACKPACK. I will not go into details, but I flew off my mountain bike over a cliff about 25 feet to the rock bottom directly flat on my back. BTW, I am 62 and in as good a shape as anyone I know. I was amazed after getting out of the emergency room that I only had broke ribs in my upper back and a separated clavicle. After further thought, I could only conclude that I must be super human to have such few injuries. 6 days later, I opened the back door of my truck and saw my dirty, torn and scratched DRAFTER that I had forgotten that I was wearing. I almost fell to my knees, realizing what saved me. Not sure, but I honestly believe that I would be dead or paralyzed without it. I experimented with my 16 year old daughter, that same day, and had her put it on and started hitting with my fist very soft and getting harder and harder without hurting her.
Drafter MTB Backpack
I bought this because I have had enough of crummy camelbaks, and Dakine products are more durable, thought out, and more efficient. Big fan of the 3L reservoir, the weight is great, and it holds all my gear for longer treks. Another big perk is it holds your helmet, whether it be a full face or small helmet, my full face fits great on the bag and it is so nice for climbing.
Best backpack
Awesome for riding
Lite weight and rugged! A+

Is this model water resistant in any way, or is there an option to buy a rain cover?
The Drafter 14L has not been treated with DWR. If you are concerned about rain, I'd recommend the product below. A rain cover will truly aid in water resistancy. https://www.rei.com/product/724688/nikwax-txdirect-spray-on-17-fl-oz
